Athletics. “World Athletics Indoor Tour” and the victories of Poles. There was quite a bit of it… From Adam Kszczot to Piotr Lisek. Toruń in the elite

Piotr Lisek won the most important athletics cycle of the indoor season – the “World Athletics Indoor Tour” – for the second time in his career. He previously achieved this in 2018, winning two meetings along the way – in Düsseldorf (5.86 m) and Toruń (5.91 m). Our best pole vaulter is not the only Pole who feels great competing indoors. Justyna Święta-Ersetic and Adam Kszczot also won the “World Athletics Indoor Tour” twice in history! Just like the biggest stars of the “queen of sports” – Ethiopians Habitam Alemu in 800 meters (2019, 2021), Gudaf Tsegay in 1500 meters (2020, 2022) and Lemlem Hailu in 3000 meters (2021, 2023), hurdler Devynne Charlton from the Bahamas ( 2022, 2024), Cuban triple jumper Liadagmis Povea (2021, 2023), American hurdler Grant Holloway (2021, 2023) and Swedis pole vault giant Armand Duplantis (2020, 2022)!

The “World Athletics Indoor Tour” is the equivalent of the “stadium” Diamond League. The list of competitions included in the cycle changes every year. Eight years ago, the Toruń “Copernicus Cup” joined the group of the most important meetings , replacing Stockholm. To this day, the cycle record tables obtained in the “Arena Toruń” hall include the results of the Ethiopian Gudaf Tsegay in the mile run (February 8, 2023 and 4:16.16), and the Ukrainian Maryna Bech-Romańczuk in the long jump (February 8, 2020 and 6.96 m) or Elliot Giles from Great Britain in 800 meters (February 17, 2021 and 1:43.63).

The most victories in history in one competition are held by our Adam Kszczot – indoor champion (2018) and vice-champion of the world (2014), 3-time European indoor champion (2011, 2013, 2017) and Polish indoor record holder (1:44.57 in 2012 year) won as many as eight times, including four in 2018.
