MERLIER’S HAT TRICK ON THE UAE TOUR. VINE CONTINUES TO LEAD

Belgian Tim Merlier (Soudal-Quick Step) won the sixth stage of the UAE Tour after finishing from the peloton. On Saturday, the cyclists competed on a 182 km route with the start and finish in Abu Dhabi. Australian Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates) remained the leader.

This is Merlier’s third stage triumph in this year’s edition. Previously, he was the fastest on the first and fourth stages. On Saturday, the Dutchman Arvid de Kleijn (Tudor Pro Cycling) and the German Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain Victorious) finished right behind him.

Stanisław Aniołkowski (Cofidis), who finished fourth on Thursday, took 25th place. Another Pole participating in the event, Filip Maciejuk (BORA-hansgrohe), was 102nd.

VINE LEADS BEFORE THE FINAL STAGE

There were no changes in the general classification. Vine, wearing the leader’s jersey, crossed the finish line in the main group and maintained the lead with an advantage of 11 seconds over his compatriot Ben O’Connor (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale).
After six stages, Maciejuk is 70th – 11.27 behind, and Aniołkowski is 103rd – 18.53 behind the leader.

The seven-stage race in the United Arab Emirates, part of the World Tour series, will end on Sunday with a climb up Jebel Hafeet.
