Tauron Liga. Home defeat of Uni Opole against KGHM Volley Wrocław. Opole women have something to regret [PHOTOS]
The fight at Steg Arena was the third confrontation between both teams this season . The previous two took place in Wrocław. Both ended with the score 3:1 – the league clash was won by Volley, but in the 1/8 finals of the Tauron Polish Cup, Uni turned out to be better.
As the course of the match in Opole showed, it did not mean much that the home team entered the match in a much more advantageous position . Regardless of the result, they are already guaranteed participation in the play-off phase. However, they still have to fight to maintain their current 6th place. In turn, the team from Wrocław was in 9th place (14 points) and after losing two sets in Steg Arena, they definitely lost the chance to finish the regular phase in the top eight. However, she played ambitiously until the end and was rewarded with her sixth victory of the season.
The absolute hero of the meeting was Volley’s attacker, Julia Szczurowska . She scored a total of 30 points, playing with a very high efficiency of 57 percent (28/49).
Both she and her friends presented difficult conditions for the Opole team from the first set . It is true that most of it was dominated by housewives, but the inhabitants of Wrocław were not discouraged by the need to repeatedly make up for significant losses. The Uni team did not play consistently enough to maintain a significant lead. As a result, it became 21:21 at the end and it all started all over again. However, the decisive actions were again played better by the volleyball players from Opole (25:23).
The second part was very similar. The locals dictated the terms of the game for a long time, and at one point they were already leading 15:9. But so what, since from that moment on the quality of their actions decreased significantly again. The result was that a few moments later there was a draw 18:18. This time, Uni did not get away with such a downtime. The fast-paced team from Wrocław made good use of their “five minutes” and won 25:21.
Only in the third set were the hosts able to maintain the appropriate level to control their fate at the full distance . Their superiority in this part of the match was beyond any doubt, which was confirmed by their 25:20 triumph.
However, in the fourth game, the volleyball players from Opole experienced deja vu from the second game . They were already winning 14:10 when suddenly something jammed again and the fate of the competition got out of their control. Volley first equalized the score at 17:17 and then took over the initiative. Although Uni was able to gain the upper hand, in the end the visiting team won 26:24.
The tie-break, however, did not go according to the hosts’ wishes . The deciding set was completely dominated by the Wrocław team, first jumping out to 12:4 and eventually winning 15:8.
